Wednesday, 02 December 2009 10:26

The South African National Energy Research Institute (SANERI) is hosting a National research and demonstration centre for Green Transport. This centre, which is based in Midrand is playing a leading role in preparing for the showcasing of Green Transport Technology options during the 2010 Football world cup and beyond, in line with the Government’s initiatives in combating global warming, air pollution reduction in urban areas and diversifying transport energy supply.

The four focus areas that have been identified are:

  • Hybrid and electric vehicles and charging stations.
  • Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)
  • Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)
  • Biofuels

Objectives of the centre

  • Agent of change and pioneering introduction of alternative fuels and vehicles into the South African transport sector
  • A one-stop facility for information sharing related to alternative fuels and vehicles involving technology vendors, vehicle manufacturers, researchers and policy developers
  • Facilitation of partnerships
  • Facilitate access to reliable data
  • Facilitate access to local funders / international donors / funders.

We are inviting interested parties to work with us to make this initiative a success.
